The Purple Ribbon
The purple ribbon is a symbol used to honor victims and survivors of
domestic violence. Shelters and
local programs use the purple ribbon to raise awareness about
the crime of domestic violence in their communities. In addition to
demonstrating support for victims, the display of purple ribbons
conveys the message that domestic violence is unacceptable in our community.

Care Lodge History
Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. has become an integral part of our
community since its founding in May, 1981. Calls relating to domestic violence
prior to 1981 had been received by the local Mental Health Association.
Answering the need for a safe place for victims, St. Paul's Episcopal Church
donated $5000 to initiate victims' domestic violence services
In 1984 Care Lodge moved to its present location with a budget of
approximately $20,000 and employed 1 full-time and 1 part-time employee. In 1987 the
Board of Trustees and the Mental Health Association deemed that Care Lodge had
sufficient funding and support to become a separate agency. Care Lodge
incorporated and maintained a budget of $160,000 with a shelter capacity of 16.
Currently, Care Lodge employs 14 full-time and 9 part-time employees.
Care Lodge maintains a budget of approximately $600,000 and has a shelter capacity of up to
