Shelter Support Specialist

HOURS: Full Time, 40-hour per week; evening and weekend work may be required.

SUMMARY: Provide individualized and comprehensive case management and advocacy services primarily to children who are victims of domestic violence. Provide direct victim services by providing transportation to appointments, jobs, and other events in order to promote independence and self-sufficiency; Provide direct victim services in emergency shelter program. Serve as member of case management team.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum requirement of an associate degree in elementary education, early childhood development or related discipline from an accredited program, or equivalent related experience determined by the Agency. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in working with children and preferably some case management related experience related to intimate partner violence. Clean driving record required.

Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of clients.

Ability to express complex information and ideas both verbally and in writing is a must.

Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment

Ability to work within agency mission, philosophy and policies/procedures.

Must have a reliable vehicle and meet agency driving policy requirements, including a valid driver license and proof of required automobile insurance. Travel may be required.

General physical requirements include but are not limited to bending, stooping, climbing stairs, prolonged sitting of more than 4 hours, lifting no more than 20 pounds.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

CASE MANAGEMENT:

  • Provide case management and advocacy services to shelter children
  • Develops and conducts psychoeducational groups for children using approved curriculum
  • Assist in developing and implementing monthly Activities Calendar
  • Conduct and/or ensure that child intake assessments are completed within 72 hours of admission.
  • Complete service plan with each child and monitor progress through daily assessment of children and weekly case management meetings with parent.
  • Assist shelter children with daily activities
  • Organize, maintain, and distribute children’s clothing and hygiene items
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of Children’s Program area and supplies
  • Participate in on-call rotation

TRANSPORTATION:

  • Provide safe and efficient transportation to agency clients to access necessary services according to transportation schedule and agency needs
  • Maintain agency vehicle safety and report all maintenance needs to Head Residential Aide
  • Utilize agency vehicles to pick up agency donations when requested

SHELTER DUTIES:

  • Assist with answering all calls coming into the shelter including crisis, information, and service calls for all agency programs; office correspondence; and community referrals
  • Assist with completing intake and enrollment documentation and orientation with new residents upon admission
  • Assist with providing support for all residents of the shelter and ensure clients adhere to shelter procedures and guidelines
  • Addresses and document any shelter procedure violations; refers more serious violations to Shelter Director
  • Assists with providing necessary supplies and clothing to shelter residents
  • Maintain documentation in agency database, complete monthly activity reports
  • Monitor shelter residents’ self-administration of medication and report any concerns or problems to Head Residential Aide.
  • Perform safety and security rounds per required schedule.
  • Maintains cleanliness of shelter office areas and monitors cleanliness of shelter common areas and bedrooms
  • Report maintenance needs and/or repairs to Head Residential Aide.

AGENCY COMPLIANCE:

  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation in a timely manner reflecting all position functions and activities in client database
  • Adhere to the agency’s confidentiality policies, maintaining a high-level standard of confidentiality
  • Report any known or suspected child abuse to immediate supervisor
  • Report any suspicious activity or persons
  • Attend and participate in agency staff meetings and trainings
  • Report to work on time as scheduled
  • Maintain a valid driver license and proof of required automobile insurance
  • Perform all other duties and/or participate in special projects as assigned by Head Residential Aide,
  • Director of Program Development or Executive Director.

OTHER:

  • In case of emergencies and extreme circumstances, will be required to assist with 24-hour shelter  coverage.
  • Participate in emergency management drills (i.e., tornado, active shooter, fire, etc.).
